Force Feeding and Starvation
Force Feeding –The ASPCA opposes the forcible feeding of farm animals, such as for the production of foie gras. This practice causes distress, acute pain, injury, and chronic health complications.
Starvation - The ASPCA opposes the practice of withholding adequate nutrition or sustenance from a farm animal, such as by force-molting egg-laying hens, feeding veal calves iron-deficient diets and feeding some breeding birds only a fraction of their desired calories in order to keep their weight low. This practice causes distress, hunger, frustration and compromised health.
All animals must be provided with a quantity and quality of feed and water that supports overall health, nutrition and hunger. Freedom from Hunger and Thirst is a basic need for farm animals.
